Butterfly Babies.
Sounds pretty sweet and lovely.
Except it isn't.
This week, my sister Jen left me a link on FB to a family whose infant son has Epidermolysis Bullosa. I had never heard of the disease before. I'm not sure that, if I sat for an entire day and tried to imagine the worse disease for a child, that I could have imagined this disease. It is truly that upsetting. You can read more about it here.
I sat and read through the Butterfly Fund site, and felt sick to my stomach. I just sobbed. These children, so beautiful and precious, with skin as delicate as a butterfly's wings.
I cannot imagine not being able to hug and squeeze and cuddle Niamh and Philly. The mamas of butterfly babies cannot do this. That breaks my heart. It puts so much in perspective-- magnifies the gift of a hug before school and a kiss goodnight.
Jen asked me to do something for the families.
I was excited that she asked me to help a cause she feels so passionately about. And, after researching EB and spending a night crying all over my keyboard, I am more than happy to put it in front of my readers/customers and hopefully raise a little to help these children and families.
"Butterfly Baby" will be available Thursday in my shop. All proceeds from this digital stamp for the first week of sales will go to the Butterfly Fund charity. I spent a lot of time drawing and re-drawing and then starting over again for this stamp:). I wanted something not gender specific, sweet, gentle, and perfect for lots of occasions. I have sketches all over my desk; it took a while, but I am happy with my final digi:).
...I think it is my favorite SC baby stamp:) and it is super versatile-- I think just about everyone can make good use of it:).
Please feel free to share on Facebook and Twitter (and your blogs too:). For those of you who share, you can use the code SHAREWINGS for 15% off your order through next Thursday. Be sure to grab the banner below, too!
Thank you, friends.

There are no words. As I sit here at 4am feeding my two week old, cuddling him close and stroking his hair, I can't seem to stop the tears. I have never heard of EB and I can not even imagine. Thank you do much for helping to raise both finds and awareness. I don't have much of a following on my blog, but tomorrow I will certainly share this info on it and my Facebook.
ReplyDeleteFor what it is worth, the image is simply gorgeous and I think the gender neutrality makes it so very versatile. I hope I can use it without crying all over my craft desk. Even if not, I will be happy to try. <3
fantasssssssticcccccccccccccc
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh what an aweful disease, I too cant imagine life without those kisses and cuddles. I have shared this where I can and will certainly be buying your super cute stamp, thanks for sharing and caring Krista

Obviously Natalie cant ask for cuddles but she gets lots of em every day, I could NEVER EVER imagine not hugging my babies no matter how old they are love & affection is one of the most important things in life, we cherish it with all of our hearts.

Oh Krista this is so sad - but really just the tip of the iceberg, there are so many dreadful skin conditions that children live with. I know of two chilren who went to school with my son (a school for children with physical limitations) - one can't ever go out in the sun because their skin would burn and develop cancers, the other has skin that grows at too fast a rate and it has to be painfully scrubbed off every day and creams and bandages applied otherwise there would be layers and layers of shard skin all over their body- imagine having to do that to your child - it really is just so sad - we should be thankful for our healthy children very day, and bless you for trying to do something to raise awareness x
ReplyDeleteWhat a loverly thing to do Krista xx I have friends I know with EB online and will be purchasing it friday when I get paid for sure xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to do, and it's absolutely beautiful. Hope you raise lots of money for the charity :)
ReplyDeleteI had tears in my eyes when I followed your links and read along. I just can't even imagine the pain and suffer that these little angels have to go through and their parents to have to watch. You are doing such a great thing and I have sharing on my facebook blog page. xxx
ReplyDeleteOh this is gorgeous, love the image and fab papers.xxx

Hi there, I just heard about what you are doing through FB. It's awesome what you are doing (and your blog is very cool too!) but I just wanted to point out one thing. EB is not an infection. It is a genetic condition. It's not something you can catch, as the word infection implys. It is something you are born with and something you will have for the rest of your life. And because it is genetic your children also have a high chance of having it too. I just wanted to highlight these facts just so people don't get misled into thinking there is cure or something you can do to stop it happening. I hope I haven't sounded harsh or disresepctful of what you are doing, because that is far from my intent. What you are doing is fantastic, I wish more people knew about EB and the children, adults and families that this disease effects. I know because I am a parent of an EB child :) Good on you for being passionate and spreading the word :)
ReplyDeleteSharmaine, thank you for clarifying that! I did not realize I had used the word "infected." I appreciate your correction!!
DeleteThanks again:).
xx
No problems and thank you. There are a lot of misconceptions about EB, that is catching, that you can stop the disease etc etc. Because it is a genetic disease you just don't know what hand you will be dealt. I see EB as constant reminder that life is precious, to make the most of it and to love more passionately :)
DeleteThank you again for spreading the word :)
Oh Krista - so sweet and for such a good charity. Hugs x
ReplyDeleteGreat image, great cause! Bless you!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww what a gorgeous image sweetie! It is adorable and just perfect for the cause. It is heartbreaking what these children go through, there was a baby in the ward beside Charlie when he was in intensive care that had this condition and it was distressing to watch and see the heartache both the baby and his parents were in. I will be sharing this on my blog and my facebook page to help you spread the word and to raise funds.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs

Having just been blessed with a healthy 3rd Grandchild I can't imagine what these children, their parents and Grandparents are going through. Thank you for this small opportunity to help and to be able to send a "hug" in a card.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this digi and even more so because of the cause you have chosen to support. I, also, was crying while reading as I am a mum of 2 (one is only 4 weeks old) and cannot image life without the beautiful kisses and cuddles from my boys. Hey Krista.. EB is a very very very rare condition that's probably why you haven't heard of it. My cousin died when he was 4 from it. I wont go into details.
ReplyDeleteMy family and I have been supporters in the UK thank you for supporting it too xx

Hi Krista, here's my post where I've shared your "Butterfly Baby" post. Thank you for all that you do.
ReplyDeleteWhy does there always have to be something WORSE than you can imagine?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this reading about this disease did make me cry.... Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for helping raise funds to fight for a cure. Can't wait to buy your digi tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this information and making us all more aware of how fortunate we may be. I can't even image how heartbreaking it would be to not be able to hug my sweet little grandson each time I see him.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful image for this cause.
ReplyDeleteGr, Elly
This is awful. I haven't read it all yet, but what you shared in your post is saddenning. :( I've never heard of this before. I would hate not being able to cuddle with my neices and nephews.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to share your banner and this post today on my blog!
<3 Jenn
Oh my goodness! I've never heard of this either. It just sent chills all through me and it is truly heart wrenching! I have no other words!
ReplyDeleteKrista, you truly do have a hugh heart and I am not only talking about this situation of you helping out others. I have read quite a few times where you helped others that were going through hard times. You are truly blessed from God to be able to use your talents in helping out the less fortunate. Your image is perfect but your heart is pure. All of the childhood illnesses are just so heart breaking that it tears your heart out to see these little ones in so much pain. I also visited St. Jude's and came away destroyed at what I saw. God puts us in charge of His little children so I commend you for doing something special for this cause. You are an angel...
ReplyDeleteOn what site can I buy the stamp?
ReplyDeleteA Canadian follower
this brought me to tears too. What a wonderful thing for you to do Krista.
ReplyDeleteYour image is beautiful and in honour of a superb cause. Once again you've shown us a glimpse of the compassion and generosity you hold in your heart. I'll be more than happy to hop on over tomorrow to pick it up. Thank you Krista.
ReplyDeleteI have tears in my eyes, Krista! I cannot even imagine the anguish a disease like that causes for those families! It breaks my heart! And it makes me take pause and remember to be grateful for every hug, kiss, and snuggle I enjoy with my small man and take nothing for granted! Your image is precious and your card sweet as can be! You are such a kind soul, and I will be buying this cutie for sure! Thank you for being you and having such a big heart!
ReplyDelete{hugs}

ReplyDeleteshared on facebook and twitter. You have a huge heart and kind soul. Thank you for shedding light on such a terrible genetic disease.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I cannot imagine the pain those kids must go through and cannot imagine either how heartbreaking it must be for their parents to see their children suffer so much :-((( Such a terrible disease!!! Oh Krista, you are such a generous and loving person with a very big heart! The image you have created for this cause is so sweet and I will definitely buy it to help raise funds. Will put the banner on my blog as well! Hugs Silvie xx
ReplyDeleteoh gosh! this makes me feel so sad, I heard once about this, How heart breaking that a mother can't hug her child. I don't know what would I do without hugging my babies, I hug them all day everyday, I kiss them, I want to cuddle with them all the time. So as a mom, this really made me feel really bad for them.....will buy this image, you did a fantastic job as always Krista!!!!.,...Fabi xxxx
ReplyDeleteKrista, I had no idea about this disease either. I would be heart broken if I couldn't hug & kiss my boy. I'm so happy you brought awareness of this and you will help raise money. I already shared the link on FB and will be purchasing my digi on Thursday to help.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, you are an Angel!

I can't imagine not holding or kissing my sweet babies and how heartbreaking that would be. I will definitely be purchasing this image as it is such a sweet, innocent reminder of these precious babies. Putting your banner on my blog too. Thank you for sharing and giving me the chance to help, even if it is just a small donation.
ReplyDeleteI will post on my blog right away. My heart is breaking after reading about this poor children and there families. I am always hugging and kissing my kids or stoking their hair, holding a hand, we are a touchy feely kinda familiy. We like being close. I find it hard suffering from a chronic pain condition as some days I am too sore to be touched, even the brush of fabric of clothes against my skin makes me cry, I ache to hold my kids and can't. But I am an adult, I know why I can't be held and I know the pain will ease eventually and I'll have a few days where its bareable again. But for a child that could NEVER be held, never know the comfort of their parents arms, is just so heart breaking.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing this horrible condition to the light so we can all do our bit for them.
Love and hugs

As a registered nurse I see so many inequities in life.... those that happen to children are the worst. What one takes so much for granted, another could only dream of it happening to themselves or their loved ones. With more research, one can only hope cures for these diseases become more common place. I have not personally heard of EB. Thankyou for highlighting such an aweful disease. I LOVE this image and have already purchased it and will link the butterfly fund on my blog. You are very generous in donating proceeds, and I am so sure your contribution will help with those families whose lives have been torn apart by EB. THANKYOU so much Krista XOX Tania
